AMY PARKER - TEXTILITY
With a background in graphic design and illustration, I jumped into fiber arts 15 years ago by learning to quilt, then by experimenting with fabric collages and 3D fabric objects. Spurred on by found and recycled materials, I love to combine contrasting textures and details. Forming shapes with color and light, I create each bowl with a concept inspired by the natural world and details of everyday life. I use cotton, silk, linen, upholstery, tulle, and other fabrics. Bowls are made in a lacy construct and are molded with rinse-away stabilizer and stiffener. Most of my fabrics come from recycled sources. My goals are to create tactile and approachable mixed media art and to keep an open mind toward experimentation and inspiration.
