GREGG GOOLSBY
From an early age, I was fascinated by the natural world—its mysteries and beauty. This intrigue inspired me to travel the globe, exploring the many spectacular natural gifts of our planet. My initial artistic mediums were photography, sketching, and oils. My father was an artist and taught me to paint as a child, so my relationship with art goes back decades. I was introduced to encaustic art in 2018 and was immediately captivated by this dynamic and tactile medium and I adapted it as my primary form of art. By working with layers of hot liquid beeswax and fusing them with fire, I create pigmented textures and luminous effects that are both impactful and captivating. Each piece is a challenge to create and may contain up to 30 layers, all brought together with the heat of my blowtorch. I invite you to explore the depth and beauty of my creations, where the ancient tradition of encaustic art meets innovation to create contemporary works. I have won multiple awards for my work and am a member of the Mt. Si Artist Guild and the Puget Sound Group Northwest Artists.
