This beautiful, hand-painted wooden box/container is painted using Japanese design elements, specifically the fox messenger (kitsune) of the goddess Inari (Shinto religion). Japanese shrines dedicated to Inari often have fox sculptures or fox guardians. Inari is the goddess/spirit of foxes, fertility, rice, agriculture and prosperity. Her messenger fox is depicted carrying a granary key. Foxes are thought to be able to shape-shift into human form. The lanterns around the edges bear the words for: fox, shrine, Inari Okami, Shintoism, messenger, tea, rice, good and celestial. 7.75x5.75x4 inches. $65. Free shipping/delivery/pickup.
