David Lutrick - Monkey puzzle vase
The monkey puzzle specie (Araucaria araucana) has limbs that emerge at the same level on the trunk, giving articles made from the wood symmetry with respect to the “eyes” formed by limb cross sections. This vase was turned so that the “eyes” are in a vertical plane passing through the long axis of the vase. The bull’s eye pattern on both sides of the vase has the pith at the center and growth rings around it. The hollow pith was replaced by a section of limb. The top and bottom are made from desert ironwood (Olneya tesota). The vase is 6 inches in diameter and 12 inches tall. It would be great for dry floral arrangements, or with a separate glass or metal water tube (not supplied), cut flowers. Pickup in Issaquah. $5 delivery within 30 miles or shipping $8.
