Lee H. Rentz - FARMSTEAD IN WINTER
I first photographed this barn in summer perhaps 15 years ago, when the Sugar Maple trees were in their July cloak of green. I loved the rounded shapes of the trees with a barn hiding behind. Many years later, I came upon the same barn on a foggy January day when the branching patterns of the maples were elegant against the gray sky and snow. The subtle reds of weathered barn wood provide a nice touch of color to what is mostly a black-and-white composition. This is a simple photograph of a barn, yes, but I think it goes beyond that into the realm of art.
