Lee H. Rentz - THE SOUL OF A NORTHERN WINTER
People wonder why I choose to spend the winters in Michigan. The answer is simple: I love snow! I love cross-country skiing, gliding across the powder as if floating. I love going out on a snow-covered lake with my brother to go ice fishing. I love heading to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to experience ethereal ice caves. And I love capturing the essence of being out in heavy snow, when the world becomes an enchanted place, dissolving into mystery. This Amish barn’s simple lines have long been a favorite subject for my photography, but I think I like this photograph most of all, with its graphic portrayal of winter.
