Jenne Rayburn - White and Gray Enameled Steel Map Necklace
Combining drawing and painting with texturing and patterning, this necklace was created with hand drawn designs and multilayered enamel finishes to show off the versatility and luminosity of glass. Using the centuries old technique of enameling on metal, with the intention of creating richly surfaced, artistically expressive and technically innovative contemporary art and jewelry, these pendants were coated with many thin layers of glass and pigment and fused in a kiln at 1500 degrees. Inspired by maps and map-making, the designs reference grids and Xs. While the symbolism of X has an almost immeasurable diversity to its use and meaning, it yet remains a signifier of mysterious precision.
