RECHERCHE is a Portland, Oregon, wearable arts studio creating limited-edition, one-of-a-kind, hand-made shoulder bags from re-purposed vintage Japanese Obi sashes. Vintage to antique buttons, tassels and/or objets d’art are used as closures/embellishments. No two bags are ever exactly alike, thus creating a singular piece of wearable art for the woman with fearless elan. Each bag is individually planned, laid out, cut and paired with a perfect decorative focal, whether button, bead, tassel or pendant. Fifteen years and more than 3,000 hand-made bags later, it has been demonstrated over and over that because of the diversity of the bags, there is enough variation in theme and texture to appeal to extremely divergent tastes and style requirements.
