I have a passion for capturing the light, texture, and forms of the natural world and conveying them in a way that makes this inherent beauty and mystery available to the viewer. I love the challenge of capturing a familiar or iconic area in an uncommon way. I focus my work primarily on the mountains and deserts of the western U.S., yet I find endless fascination with the natural world wherever my travels may take me.

Olympic Rainforest #1

This was taken on a trip to Seattle Washington in the mid 1990’s. I took time to make a trip out to the Olympic National Park, and see the Hoh Rainforest. I was not disappointed. The lush greenery was simply stunning. This image was actually taken near the visitors center at the park. I was struck by the contrast between the red tones in the tree stump and the dense green surrounding it.

Spirit of the Forest

I took this image on a beautiful fall day of an Aspen forest in Colorado. It was done with a camera capable of capturing the infrared spectrum along with visible light, allowing the viewer to see what cannot be seen by the naked eye. The partial conversion to black and white, along with the blue sky, adds to the mystery.

Atlantic Sunset

A view of the rugged Atlantic Ocean coastline at sunset taken near the town of Die Kelders, South Africa. I was hiking along a trail that follows the coastline as the sun was setting low, looking for a good point of view. I found this spot with the jagged rocks amidst the pounding surf just a few minutes before sunset and managed to capture this image as the sun dipped below some clouds just over the horizon.
