Lee H. Rentz - AMISH BARN IN WINTER
I pass this barn frequently and have photographed it on occasion. On this January day, all the elements came together for a photograph truly inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper. The simple angles and the way they come together; the patterns of light and shadow in the late afternoon light; the snow on the roof with a blue shadow crossing it–all made for a powerful composition that is more modern than nostalgic in its sensibilities. When you look at it, think not of a barn but of a poetic description of surfaces.
