Charles Friedman - Seashell Books
Beautifully photographed images of “Shillshole Seashells from the Salish Sea”
It has the story of me as a “Collector-Curator-Creator” and a storyteller full of Shaggy-dog stories and make-believe. Printed enlarged close-up images. That really shows the inside of the shell.
An Ersatz Seashell Museum-Specializing in the allusive”Shilshole Seashell”
From the Salish Sea.
Ersatz: artificial, bogus, imitation, fake, faux, man-made pretend, simulated, hooy.
Midden: a term used by Archeologists for a Garbage Dump, made by humans.
Dichroic: showing two colors, especially doubly of refracting crystal is from vapored Titanium while inside of a vacuum chamber .
Seashell-Horns: are for anchoring the shell, in good feeding grounds, but very strong currents.
Turbinated: to be twisted up like a turban, freshwater or saltwater and land shells, including the Periwinkles. Shaped like a Top or inverted cone, with whorls decreasing rapidly in size.
Shaggy-Dog Stories: Tall tales with lots of imagination and a bit of truth and science, just to make things confusing and interesting.
Alstroemeria: Peruvian Lily is used to help with the removal of the scent of the sea. Artificial ones are the best used.
Optic/Cane/Ribs: They ask: How do you do it? My answer is: A little earthly-science and some rubber bands, twist it up real tight and pray like hell.

The Metallic sheen that you see on some of the shells is Gold 24K. The gold is in the Colored Glass that is used in making the Seashells. I bring the gold to the surface, while very hot, using the chemistry of flames. I use different sizes and kinds of flames to “Brush the shell” with Gold.
