Our lives are filled with tragedy, promise; clarity, confusion; etc. etc. These opposites put me in a constant push-me-pull-me state that is reflected in my work. My paintings are realistic yet abstract. My other works tends to depict an imaginary time. I enjoy the surprises that using many layers of paint, collage papers, photos on different substrates can bring. Each piece starts with paint and paper “ground” that leads to the next layer, so on and so on. I use negative painting to make the background into foreground shapes. I keep something from the previous layer on the surface. And then I use positive painting to finalize the image.
