Although my work may seem to be painting rather than photography, I am applying digital precision to traditional film techniques, like multiple exposure and slow shutter, to the digital equivalents of the darkroom methods I used for more than 40 years. My method offers a tremendous range of aesthetic possibility in the blending of layers, yielding transparency, texture, and color that would be unattainable in most single-layered photographic work. And as with the powerful reportage photography that I grew up admiring, my works ask us to observe and to make sense of what is around us with greater attentiveness.
