I strive to demonstrate the supportive tension that can gracefully hold forms and produce the textures that appear through the shadows they cast. I am inspired by the landscape that surrounds me – the curves, dips, and distances (or not) between. Each sculpture I make inspires the next. Earlier this year (2021), I discovered how to make cylinders – straight lines. Right away I saw these forms as containment. They express my experience with the restraints of pandemic isolation. The figurative form that hangs inside represents the loneliness of this new isolated lifestyle. The result is a new series I call “Suspended Isolation.” Through my art, my intention is to remain open to what I can learn, contribute, and communicate as a maker.
