My main inspirations are old images of people and life in the late 19th and early 20th century. Additionally, I skip around to different subjects and genres including landscapes, nature, still lifes and portraiture. I work in traditional academic methods of painting and drawing. Consistent with that approach, I spend as much as 40% of my time on a piece drawing and exploring an idea or composition before I begin to add color and values. My still lifes are simple (three or four objects with chiaroscuro lighting), focusing on techniques and effects, e.g. charcoal and chalk on toned paper. For the Virtual NWAA Holiday Market I’m showing work in several mediums.
