I conjured up the Bella Luz Studio Luminettes in order to offer the beauty of light and color in an affordable, accessible way. They are made of hand-textured copper and translucent prints of my drawings, rather than glass, but my love of color, light and dreamy imagery still guide their design. My hope is that my work touches people’s sense of magic, and will add beauty and pizzazz to their lives each day.
The fused glass face pins are another facet of my glasswork. Mine are set apart by their lifelike eyes, which are trapped air bubbles under clear glass. All the color is from separate pieces of glass melted together.
I am drawn to partnering my glasswork with materials that come with a personal history, such as suitcases and old functional wooden boxes. Openings are cut out of the frameworks, edged in copper and beads with my glass paintings set behind them, electrically lit from within. These repurposed frameworks are lovely, sturdy, and have a hidden story with echoes of the hopes, dreams and travails of their previous owners. My aim is to give new life to these materials by using them in combination with my glasswork, creating objects of light, intimacy and intrigue.
